Week 11 - Messages

Plant communication, is a term used to describe the messenger compounds transferring plant-to-plant. Some messages are warnings to be on alert of danger near by. When plants warn one another, they emit VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, which appear when a gas is the product of a reaction of a solid or liquid. Other messages describe the livelihood of the plant, by revealing where the nutrients is lacking or thriving. Message carriers are called LTP or lipid transfer proteins. LTP play a major role in plant survival, and ensure that the plants receives all that it needs. "LTPs are considered key proteins for plant survival on and colonization of land. LTPs are abundantly expressed in most plant tissues, both above and below ground. They are usually localized to extracellular spaces outside the plasma membrane."(Pubmed, 2018).They work to cause adhesion between barriers, and send extracellular signals.
